Week 2 of our Phase 3 adventure is here at last! What are we up to this week? Spend some time on these simple activities to support your child as they learn to read with phonics.
Which letters and sounds are we learning this week
This week will see us focusing on Y, Z and QU.
Your child will need to learn the letter names like you say them when saying the alphabet (A, B, C) as well as the letter sounds.
They will likely be presented with both the UPPERCASE (capitals) and lowercase (not capitals). When writing, they may focus on the lowercase formation, to begin with.
Which high-frequency words are we learning this week?
Our tricky or High-Frequency Words this week ‘to’ and ‘the’.
Don’t forget to include some of the previous week’s high-frequency words in your activities too. You can find a list of all of them or the different phases in one place in our High-Frequency and Tricky Word Lists.
What can we do with this week’s sounds?
Don’t forget that any of the activities can be used each week so if your child has a favourite sensory letter or word building activity use those instead. It helps make the activities more familiar to them.
What words can I create?
Don’t forget to mix this week’s letters with those letters from previous weeks. That way, you can keep practising them and you can create a wider range of words.
For ideas on the words you can create with the letters we’ve learned so far, please look at our word lists.
