Because we love our water play here at Parent’s Homework Hub, we picked our letters using a fishing rod. You could pick from a feely bag or even work through the alphabet in order. Find out how you play I-Spy Initial Letter Search indoors or outside.

Draw those findings
One way to play this game.

You will need To Play This I-Spy Game:

  • A container
  • Bubblebath / food colouring / glitter (biodegradable) – all optional
  • Water
  • Fishing rod
  • Letters set

You could use, instead of water:

  • a feely bag
    or
  • a feely box

How to play the I-Spy game

Fish for that letter
Go fishing for your first initial sound!
  • Select your first letter either by fishing, choosing from your bag or picking from your box.
D for dice
Younger players
Draw those findings
Pre-schoolers
Write it up
Older players
  • YOUNGER PLAYERS – go on a hunt for objects they can see that begin with that sound.
    PRE-SCHOOLERS OR FOUNDATION STAGE PLAYERS – draw pictures of the things they find.
    OLDER PLAYERS – write the things they have found.
  • The players with the most things on their list, is the winner.

BONUS ACTIVITY

Why not turn this activity into a fantastic alphabet scrapbook?

Collect as many items as you can, draw objects and let your little learner take photos to put together sound collages and create an alphabet scrapbook.
