Welcome back! Phase 3, week 4 is here is to show you some new, fun, practical and educational ways to support your little reader to read and spell 3 new digraphs (2 letter sounds) and… A TRIGRAPH (3 letter sounds)!

Which Phase 3 letters and sounds are we learning this week?

This week will see us focusing on these sounds: AI, EE, IGH and OA.

Your child will need to learn the letter names like you say them when saying the alphabet (A, B, C) as well as the letter sounds they make when put together.

Which high-frequency words are we learning this week?

Our tricky or High-Frequency Words this week ‘was’ and ‘my’.

Don’t forget to include some of the previous week’s high-frequency words in your activities too. You can find a list of all of them or the different phases in one place in our High-Frequency and Tricky Word Lists.

What can we do with this week’s sounds?

Don’t forget that any of the activities can be used each week so if your child has a favourite sensory letter or word building activity use those instead. It helps make the activities more familiar to them.

What words can I create?

Don’t forget to mix this week’s letters with those letters from previous weeks. That way, you can keep practising them and you can create a wider range of words.
